If all these things depend on upon your golf cart, then definitely you have to be confident that it is able to perform these activities without facing any issue. And for that, you need to take care of you golf cart batteries. Here are a few tips for your golf cart battery maintenance.

•    Understand Your Golf Cart Batteries First

In order to take care of the golf cart batteries you need to know them. Acquire all the background information. You need to get that the batteries in your golf cart you just bought are not like the batteries in your car no matter how much they resemble them. The batteries in your golf cart are termed as deep cycle batteries. These batteries are flooded batteries and are not maintenance free, rather they require routine maintenance to ensure prolonged battery life. Furthermore, get familiarized with the manual that came with the battery charger.

•    Safety

You are familiar with the ‘safety first’ rule so apply it on here as well. Before you go near your batteries make sure you are wearing the protective gloves, goggles, and clothing. Position the Run-Tow switch on the ‘Tow/Maintenance’ and ensure that the key switch is off. You are dealing with electricity here so the wrench(s) you are using should be enclosed in a vinyl tape i.e. electrical tape in order to evade the risk of the battery short out which can result in explosion and serious injuries. After taking these precautions proceed to the battery maintenance and cleaning.

•    Keep The Batteries Clean, Tight, and Dry

In order to clean the batteries, use a baking soda solution and water, a bristle brush and do not forget to wear rubber gloves and eye protection. Also, you should not be wearing any jewelry all this time. In order to prevent rust and corrosion, spray the anti-corrosive spray on cables.

•    Charge with The Genuine Golf Cart Battery Charger for 8 To 10 Hours

It applies to the situation when the battery is discharged to 80% i.e. the battery should be charged at least 20% when you are charging it again. The best way to charge your battery is to charge it overnight when you have used the cart for a whole day. You have to give the batteries a good charge even if you have used them for only 5 minutes. Use a high-quality golf cart battery charger so that you can plug it in without caring about manual shutting off.

•    Water The Battery After Charging

You should fill the battery cells only after the battery is charged and water the battery cells with distilled water. Do not use the tap water for this purpose and fill the holes 1/2 to 1/4 inch above the plates, don’t fill the battery cells more than that. At 1/2 you would have more acid accumulation on the battery top while at 1/4 you have to check the water level more often, so it is up to you which level you want to fill on.
