Happy Valentine’s Day!

That’s right boys and girls today is Valentine’s Day! I know what many of you are doing right now.  Your saying “oh hell I forgot… Now what?”  Don’t sweat it you can handle this.  Just make sure you don’t panic and make a rookie mistake and run to the gas station for terrible flowers & a travel map.  Here is my last-minute Valentine’s Day Survival Guide.

Time is Short Make a List

It’s the day of what do you do now.  Answer: You do the same thing you do with every other thing in your life.  If you fail to plan your plan will fail.  Start brainstorming now and make a list.  Think about your significant other and fill in the blanks below.

What do you love about your significant other?

  1. ____________________________________________________
  2. ____________________________________________________
  3. ____________________________________________________

What are their favorite sweets?

  1. ____________________________________________________
  2. ____________________________________________________
  3. ____________________________________________________

What is their favorite flower?

  1. ____________________________________________________
  2. ____________________________________________________
  3. ____________________________________________________

If you don’t know after valentine’s day be sure to ask and store it under their contact info in your phone, along with any other important info. 😊 don’t forget to plan. Roses are great but don’t be afraid to pick a different bouquet and look for variety.

What is their hobby/interests?

  1. ____________________________________________________
  2. ____________________________________________________
  3. ____________________________________________________

Mountain biking? Reading? Tech geek? Movie Buff?

What is their favorite meal?

  1. ____________________________________________________
  2. ____________________________________________________
  3. ____________________________________________________

If you waited till the last minute or if you don’t want to fight the crowds you might want to look into curbside to go and make sure you plate everything on real plates (no foam or paper plates) or cook the meal yourself.

The list is made now make the plan

This is important or you won’t have a clear idea of where to go or you may find yourself running all around and wasting time.  Look at your quick lists and develop your personal budget.  Just because it’s a holiday and you want to go all out doesn’t mean you have to go broke as well.

My recommendation for your first stop is the Dollar Store.  That’s right head over to your local Dollar Tree.  Hallmark cards are great, but they also cost $8?!?! Why? Get a blank card and fill out with the list from what do you love about your significant other doesn’t need to be poetic if you draw a blank just be straight forward.

Example:

Dear,

I love you so much and feel so lucky you are in my life.  I love the way you make coffee for me every morning it makes me feel cared for and I know I don’t say it, but I really appreciate it.

~Me

Then go down the candy aisle and pick up the sweets you can also get a small bowl to put them all in.  Stay away from the gift bags this isn’t a birthday or anniversary.

This would be the time to look for anything related to hobbies or interests now as well.  If your significant other enjoys reading maybe look for a nice bookmark & reading light.  If they are a movie buff maybe get a bag of popcorn and you can include a voucher to a movie night with their choice of movie or rent a movie for a great night in.

I would stay away from florists for the flowers.  Many grocery stores these days have a floral department but again look around first.  They will have the inflated bundles for Valentine’s day close to the door but if you look around you might be able to get a few bouquets and put them together to make a larger arrangement.  I know that my Publix often has a special for 3 for $12 on different arrangements instead of paying $40 for 12 roses with a vase (if you have been with someone for some time you should have a vase at home)

Put it all together & deliver

It’s nice to have a delivery guy hand deliver items to your significant other at their office.  They feel a little embarrassed, but they also feel loved.  Well if you waited till the last minute that’s not going to happen so work on putting everything together that you gathered and make it presentable to deliver yourself.  I mean really what says I love you more than taking the time to hand-deliver items to your sweetheart.

Learn and Plan for Next time

I hope this guide helps you navigate the day if you didn’t plan for it.  Just be sure to learn from what worked and remember that your phone has a great feature that allows you to set reminders, so you don’t get blindsided next year.  Start now and next time a birthday, anniversary, a holiday comes up you will be ready.
